Netlink SVP Server
The NetLink SVP Server is a required hardware component of the system
that ensures excellent voice quality is maintained in a shared wireless
voice and data network. The NetLink SVP Server can support up to 400
users, depending on average
Wireless Telephone usage. As the Wireless
Telephone user roams throughout the facility, the call is handed off
between access points.
Features
· Dedicated network appliance
· Supports 120 simultaneous calls in conjunction with a NetLink
Telephony Gateway and 80 simultaneous calls in a system that
does not
require a Telephony Gateway
· Provides SVP encapsulation of voice packets to allow
prioritization in
access points
What is SVP?
In order to enhance voice quality over the wireless network, SpectraLink
has developed a quality of service mechanism that is implemented in the
Wireless Telephone and access point. This mechanism, SpectraLink Voice
Priority, or SVP, gives a controlled preference to voice packets over
data packets on the wireless LAN, increasing the probability that all
voice packets are transmitted efficiently. SpectraLink Voice Priority is
an open specification that is compliant with the IEEE 802.11b standard.
· SpectraLink's open quality of service (QoS) mechanism for
802.11b
wireless LANs
· Minimizes latency for voice packets
· Provides priority queuing for voice packets
· Minimizes random back-off after packet transmission
· Implemented in wireless LAN access points
· 802.11b compatible
· Software upgradeable
